We are currently recruiting for a Head of SHEQ to join a growing leadership team at a respected and well-established £110m turnover general contractor delivering residential, heritage, and commercial construction across London. This is a high-impact permanent role, offering strategic oversight across the group’s operations and a chance to lead a committed SHEQ team working across multiple live projects.

 

Based in North West London or the Soho office, with regular site presence, this role suits an experienced SHEQ leader looking to influence operational excellence, compliance, and culture across a business known for quality and delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Health & Safety

  • Lead policy and compliance across H&S regulations and CDM 2015
  • Chair Safety & Environmental Committee meetings; report to the board monthly
  • Ensure proper investigation and reporting of accidents, near misses, and incidents
  • Develop and implement SHEQ document control systems
  • Support tender/bid teams with H&S input and guidance
  • Ensure CHAS, SafeContractor, Constructionline, ISO 45001 accreditations are maintained
  • Promote a proactive, collaborative safety culture across projects

Environmental

  • Maintain and improve ISO 14001 accreditation
  • Oversee Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) and environmental audits
  • Ensure environmental folders and waste paperwork are current across all sites
  • Audit waste suppliers and implement sustainability best practices

Quality

  • Manage ISO 9001 accreditation and documentation
  • Lead quality assurance audits across live projects
  • Drive continual improvement and standardisation in project delivery

Training & Development

  • Oversee training compliance across site management and operational staff
  • Manage training records and internal development plans
  • Liaise with subcontractors to support training initiatives where possible

Requirements:

  • Chartered Member of IOSH
  • Degree (or equivalent) or NEBOSH Level 6 Diploma
  • Proven experience in a senior SHEQ leadership role within the construction industry
  • Deep knowledge of UK H&S legislation and ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001)
  • Track record managing safety across multiple project workstreams
  • Able to lead, mentor, and develop a team of SHEQ professionals
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence at all levels
